History

Scottsdale’s history is rich and dates back to over a thousand years ago with the Hohokam. The Hohokam developed intricate canal systems in the area to further their agricultural development. In the late 1800’s developments were made to the canal systems to foster agricultural growth in the area.  In 1894 the town’s name was officially changed to Scottsdale. Scottsdale came on to the radar in 1912 when it developed the first resort in the Phoenix Metro area. On June 25th, 1951 Scottsdale was incorporated. From that point Scottsdale continued to experience explosive residential, economic, and commercial growth.

Scottsdale economy is as bustling as its night life. With tourism accounting for nearly 40% of the city’s workforce, Scottsdale has established itself a true premier tourist location. However, in addition to the tourist based industries there are a multitude of companies that call Scottsdale home to their corporate headquarters.
