Apache Junction

Apache Junction is a city that is located in both Maricopa and Pinal counties and boasts a population of around 36,000. Apache Junction spans just over 34 square miles and is located just east of Mesa, offers amazing views of the Superstition Mountains to its east, and is situated just south of the Goldfield Mountains. Apache Junction is unique in the sense that it has no city property tax and it relies heavily on sales tax revenue instead. Apache Junction is not a very densely populated area; however, it offers much in terms of scenic desert and mountain views.

History

Apache Junction derived its namesake from its location at the western end of the Apache Trail and junction where it meets up with the US Highway 60. With Apache Junction’s proximity to the Superstition Mountains’ fabled Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine and the Goldfield Ghost Town, its history is rich in western folklore.

Employment

With such a small population size of around 36,000 residents, municipal employees account for a large portion of employment; however, retail locations such as Walmart, Walgreens, and Fry’s Food Stores offer a reasonable mix as well. Apache Junction also benefits with its strategic location off of the US Highway 60.

Apache Junction is a small place with a definite small town feel. Therefore, there are not huge 100,000 square foot retail developments; however, with its location off of the US Highway 60 it is literally minutes away from all the great retail offerings in the Valley of the Sun.
